Try Dressing Up To Boost Your Mood!
If you’re having a down day, sometimes all you want is to throw on your comfiest sweatpants and hide from the world.

We’re all about listening to what your body needs. However, sometimes it’s not an option to stay in sweatpants and huddle on the couch. Disappointing, we know.

To give yourself a boost, try finding something that you’ll feel dressed up and your best in.

As noted by fashion psychologist Shakaila Forbes-Bell in an episode of Well+Good’s Podcast, research shows that what you wear can affect how you feel and think.

If you’re feeling less than stellar, putting on an outfit that makes you feel absolutely fabulous can give you a little boost.

It can also change getting dressed from a task and a chore to something you get excited about.

If you want to prep for those days when you’re feeling meh and don’t want to piece together an outfit, brainstorm a few outfits ahead of time. Play dress-up and try on a couple of looks. Take pictures, and stash them in an album.

Then, when the day arrives, and you need a little pick-me-up, head to your album and pick an outfit you know will help you feel a bit better!
What Is Body Neutrality?
You’ve likely heard of the term “body positivity” — the radical movement to love your body, regardless of how it looks. However, have you heard of body neutrality?

While we are all about self-love, the reality is: It’s not always easy. And sometimes it feels very difficult — especially when the focus is on our physical appearances. Body positivity affirmations like “I love my body, cellulite and all,” may not always resonate — and that’s okay.

Instead of focusing on the physical aspects of our bodies (and trying to make ourselves love the parts that may feel more difficult), body neutrality focuses on body acceptance and being grateful for what our bodies can do for us.

Here’s a look at body neutrality statements:
  • I am grateful for how my body allows me to move throughout my day and experience different things.
  • My body allows me to hug my loved ones and feel connected to others.
  • My brain is amazing because it allows me to experience many different emotions.
  • I appreciate that my body does so much for me.
Try saying one or two body neutrality statements throughout the day, and notice how it makes you feel. You can focus on different things you are grateful to your body for — or just how it allows you to do and experience many different things!
Fun Fact
False! Self-care includes caring for your physical and mental health — and much more! Self-care can apply to all areas of your life.
Final Thoughts
Self-care definitely can include making time for a face mask or a bubble bath — but it's SO much more than that.

Take some time today to think about the areas you'd like to give yourself some more care and follow along as we take a deep dive over the next week into the different kinds of self-care!
