How Color Can Impact Our Moods
Many of us are familiar with color theory and color psychology, and how different shades can impact the way we feel.
One of the first ideas of color psychology that comes to mind is advertising and how different companies use color to influence us in various ways.
However, color in the world around us — including our workspaces, homes, and clothes — can impact our mood, too!
Identifying how different colors can affect us can help create environments that help us feel productive, calm, energized, and so forth!
One study found that colors were associated with different emotions for varying percentages of participants:
- Red and Pink: Love (68% and 50%, respectively)
- White and Blue: Relief (43% and 35%, respectively)
- Orange and Yellow: Joy (44% and 52%, respectively)
- Green: Contentment (39%)
- Black: Sadness (51%)
While the study did find certain colors were largely linked with a specific emotion — like red and pink for love — different colors can have different meanings for different people!
If a specific color makes you feel good — whether it's at peace, energized, or happy — see if you can find ways to incorporate that into your day!

Ways To Make Your Phone Less Appealing Before Bed
You're not alone if you've stayed up too late because you got caught doomscrolling on your phone.
Whether it's reverse bedtime procrastination or simply that you didn't notice how late it got while watching videos, many of us are no strangers to staying on our devices longer than we'd like to admit.
For some, it's a nightly occurrence.
Fear not — finding some simple ways to make your phone less appealing before bed can help you rest easier and live more mindfully:
- Keep your phone out of your bedroom: Keeping your bedroom prioritized for sleep and using an alarm clock instead of your phone alarm to wake up can help you create better boundaries with your electronics.
- Set time limits: Designating a set limit of how long you want to use specific apps or scheduling time away from your phone (many phones allow you to do this with built-in features) can help hold you accountable.
- Log out of social media accounts: If you have a habit of hitting "ignore" on time limits, logging out of accounts can help remove some of the mindless scrolling.
- Create a different bedtime routine: Finding different activities to do close to bedtime that aren't connected to a screen— like reading, journaling, etc. — can help you look forward to getting off your phone.
- Remind yourself it's an act of self-care: While a bit of mindless scrolling can be a nice way to mentally unplug, reframing disconnecting from your phone as something you "have" to do as something you're doing to help yourself feel your best and prioritize sleep can make it something you look forward to.

Is Lucid Dreaming Dangerous? What To Know
Dreams can be funky, to say the least. But what about when you're aware you're dreaming?
As shared by Healthline, "Lucid dreaming is when you’re conscious during a dream." It generally occurs during the deepest sleep state, REM.
People may use different techniques to try and lucid dream so they can guide the stories.
While it may sound like a cool experience — and fans of the method say it can be an interesting form of self-exploration — experts caution there are some potential risks:
- Disrupted sleep: More research is needed to understand the true impacts of lucid dreaming, but researchers caution it may interrupt our sleep patterns and we may not rest as well. Certain techniques may also require us to wake in the middle of the night, interrupting our rest.
- Mental health concerns: Especially for those who struggle with a form of psychosis, experts told Well+Good that the nature of lucid dreaming can blur the lines between reality and dreams, making symptoms worse.
- Anxiety: Lucid dreaming can be a weird experience and may cause some people to experience anxiety.
