How Color Analysis Can Be an Act of Self-Care
Personal color analyses have been around for over 50 years — but their popularity has exploded again in recent years, thanks largely to social media.
It's been a more common practice in countries like Korea and has made its way west.
You may have seen people on TikTok and other platforms sharing videos of different color swatches in front of their faces, using terms like "bright spring" and "cool winter" to describe a color palette that's supposed to suit their hair and skin tone.
Known as "color analysis," this practice aims to help people identify a range of different shades and tones of color that complement their features.
We wholeheartedly encourage wearing what makes you feel your best — whether that falls into the palette of a personal color analysis or not.
However, wearing colors that complement your features can have a few benefits:
- Help you highlight features: You may notice that certain colors make specific features pop. A color analysis can help you find hues that best make that happen.
- Boost confidence: Whether you're taking photos, heading to the office, or hanging out with friends, wearing things that we feel compliment us can give us a boost.
- Make shopping and getting dressed easier: Knowing what colors naturally flatter your complexion can make shopping much easier. Plus, when you select pieces for your wardrobe that make you feel great, it's much easier to get dressed for the day!
Many people like to get a color analysis done by an expert — but thanks to technology, there are lots of online apps and tools you can use to identify a color palette that suits you!
It's important to note that different experts or apps may also have variations in their categories.
While this can be a fun guide to help you find colors that compliment you, remember: it's not a rule! Experts also note that many people may not fall directly into one category, so don't feel like you have to stick strictly to one area!

The Argument for Not Wearing Sweatpants Every Day
There's nothing that says cozy like wearing a pair of sweatpants and lounging at home.
However, when we do it every day — especially for those of us who work from home — it can impact how we feel (and it may not always be for the better).
"We know from research and studies that clothes have the power to shape the way people think about you, the way you think about yourself, the identity you lean into, the way you feel about your body, and the way you think in general,” Shakaila Forbes-Bell, MA, a fashion psychologist and the founder of Fashion In Psychology told Well+Good Podcast.
The "enclothed cognition theory" says that what we wear can impact our "psychological processes."
Naturally, dressing up a little (opting for something that's not sweatpants or leggings) can help us feel like our best selves!
Two experts speaking with POPSUGAR made similar remarks that having a routine — including getting dressed — can help us feel more in control and boost our mood.
This doesn't mean you have to put on a full-on professional or business casual outfit every day!
A few ways we like to break out of the sweatpants routine include:
- Aiming to wear non-loungewear outfits 2 to 3 days a week
- Still giving ourselves the flexibility to switch into comfy clothes after work hours on non-sweatpants days (this is also a great tip to help our brains between the work-and-home transitions)
- Shifting the mindset from "having" to wear something that's not sweats to one of getting to experiment with our personal style and how it makes us feel
- On days when we do wear sweats, still be sure to keep a routine of showering, doing skincare, and getting ready for the day — instead of just rolling out of bed

This New Toilet Paper Just Might Save the Planet
Every 24 hours, 27,000 trees are cut down to make toilet paper. To us, that feels like way too many — and Honeycomb agrees. That’s why this small, female-founded brand created luxury, three-ply toilet tissue made from bamboo. It feels just like regular high-end toilet paper, but doesn’t harm trees.
So why bamboo? It’s the fastest-growing plant in the world — growing 100 times faster than the average tree — which means thousands of rolls can be produced in the time it takes for a single tree to grow back.
Note to Self subscribers that are first-time customers can use code NTS30 to get 30% off their first order until midnight.

How To Discover Your Personal Style
As loungewear has become daily wear for many of us in recent years, we may have lost touch with our personal style.
Especially as we change over time, so does our taste! Where do you even begin to connect with what you like to wear?
Here are a few ways you can begin discovering your personal style:
- Identify elements that bring you joy: When it comes to your closet, what brings you happiness? For some, it's bright colors and patterns. For others, it's a sleek, minimal silhouette. Some may prefer a timeless look with capsule pieces that complement each other. Find what brings you joy, and look for more of that!
- Get inspired: Search social media sites and create a vision board of styles you love. This can help you identify what looks you'd like to re-create and what elements to include in your own wardrobe.
- Focus on core pieces: Finding a few core pieces that you love and can wear with lots of different things will help you experiment with various garments. Don't be afraid to branch out and try something new!
- Look secondhand: Vintage shops and secondhand sites are a great way to find unique pieces at a more affordable cost — plus, it's great for the environment when you're trying out different styles!
