What Is Noise Pollution and How Can It Impact Our Well-Being?
Have you ever tried to work, only to find you're completely distracted and unable to focus due to construction happening down the street?
Or perhaps you've been going about your day, only to find your ears hurt when the train at the nearby station barrels through.
These are all examples of noise pollution. "Noise pollution" is simply "unwanted or disturbing sounds," as shared by the EPA.
While at best, noise pollution can be annoying, it can also affect our well-being and the world around us.
The EPA notes that noise pollution can impact:
- Sleep quality, or ability to rest
- Productivity
- Illnesses related to stress
- Blood pressure
- Hearing
- And more
But that's not all. As shared by National Geographic, noise pollution can affect our ecosystems — like causing bluebirds to have fewer chicks or making caterpillars' vessels beat more quickly.
This shows how important environmental self-care is — for our homes, workplaces, and the world around us!

Ways To Reduce Noise Pollution at Home
While we may not be able to control the environment outside our homes, we can control what's inside them — and take steps to lessen the impacts of noise pollution.
Here are a few simple steps you can take to reduce noise pollution in your home:
- Turn off appliances: Appliances like our TVs, microwaves, and other dives may cause small noises that we may not notice — but impact our environment. Consider shutting them off when they're not in use to ease some of the volume.
- Shut doors: If you're getting distracted by the dryer humming, shutting the door is a simple way to ease the noise.
- Insulate your doors and windows: Sound from the outside can creep in through windows, doors, and cracks around them. Insulating these with protective layers, under-door and doorframe padding, and more can all help muffle outdoor sounds.
- Fill your space with fabric: Rugs, sound-reducing curtains, and plush furniture can all help absorb noise instead of bouncing it around the room.
- Invest in noise-canceling headphones: These can be a game-changer in reducing the volume of the world around you and helping you focus.

Painting for You
Painting isn't just about making pretty pictures—it's also really good for your mental health. When you paint, you're expressing yourself in a way that might be hard to do with words. You can let out your emotions and thoughts through the colors and shapes you use. This can help you feel better emotionally.
Painting also helps you relax and be more mindful. When you're painting, you're focused on what you're doing right then and there. This can help lower your stress levels and make you feel more calm and peaceful.
Plus, painting is a great way to boost your creativity and imagination. When you're being creative, you're trying out new ideas and seeing what works. This can make you feel more confident and proud of yourself. So, next time you're feeling stressed or just want to have some fun, grab some paint and give it a try!

Worth Seeking Out
The news is true: Masterworks’ 15th sale just weeks ago returned an impressive 77% to investors. While such a high return is an outlier for the blue-chip art investing platform, you might be wondering what their prior sales delivered. Glad you asked…
Every one of their sales has returned a profit to investors, with 12 of them delivering double-digit returns, and 1 delivering triple-digit annualized returns.
In full, Masterworks has over 300 paintings and their 16 exits have delivered: 32%, 39.3%, 36.2%, 27.3%, 9.2%, 33.1%, 21.5%, 17.8%, 13.9%, 35%, 10.4%, 325.5%, 4.1%, 17.6%, 77.3%, and 13.4% net annualized returns.
Every sale but one outperformed the stock market in the period from when it was offered to when it was sold.
With performance like that, offerings on the platform can sell out in minutes. However, Note to Self readers can skip the waitlist to join with this exclusive link.

How Do You Know If Your Headphones Are Too Loud?
Whether you're walking outside, at the office, or chilling at home, headphones can take your music or podcast listening to the next level.
However, listening to music that's too loud can pose serious risks to your hearing.
But how do you know if it's too loud?
- Lean on phone tools: Many phones now send alerts if your headphone volume is too loud. If you get a notification that advises reducing your listening volume, it's a good idea to do so.
- Try the arm-length test: Put on your headphones and play your music at the volume you would generally listen to. Keep the music playing, take them off, and hold the headphones in front of you an arm's length away. If you can still hear the music when the headphones are this far, it's likely a sign your music is too loud.
- Listen for sounds around you: When your music is playing, you should still be able to hear noises from the world around you (this may be significantly dulled when using noise-canceling features, so try it without noise-canceling on). If you can't hear anything besides your music or whatever you're listening to, consider bumping down the volume a few notches.

How to Choose a Protein Supplement
There are a variety of protein powders available to choose from - here are three common types:
- Whey Protein: Derived from milk, whey protein is quickly absorbed by the body, making it great for post-workout muscle recovery and growth.
- Plant-Based Protein: Pea, rice, hemp, and soy protein are great examples of plant-based options. They're great for vegetarians, vegans, or those with dairy allergies.
- Collagen Protein: Collagen is rich in amino acids like glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. It's beneficial for skin, joint, and bone health, making it a popular choice to support these areas.
