What Is Hydrotherapy? Learn About This Water-Based Self-Care Practice
When you think of at-home self-care, you may consider a relaxing soak in the tub.

Many people may not know that this can be a form of hydrotherapy!

Hydrotherapy is a self-care practice that specifically uses water. It may use hot or cold water to promote different benefits.

This practice has many benefits, including:
  • Relaxation
  • It can aid with inflammation and stiffness
  • May help in recovery
Some forms require a specific facility or equipment, and you may need to head somewhere special. However, other kinds of hydrotherapy can be done right at home!

Ways To Practice Hydrotherapy at Home
If you're interested in trying hydrotherapy at home, here are a few ideas to get started:
  • Take a relaxing, hot bath.
  • Apply ice packs to different areas of your body.
  • Put your favorite herbs or essential oils in boiling water, and from a safe distance, allow the steam to warm your face.
  • Alternate between hot and cold water in the shower.
To make the experience even more relaxing, play a soothing playlist and set the mood!

As always, be sure to check with a professional before trying anything new — especially if you have any health concerns, open cuts or wounds, or questions.

Should You Boil Your Tap Water To Remove Microplastics? What To Know About New Research
A new study revealed that boiling and filtering tap water effectively removed up to 90% of microplastics, sparking interest and leaving people to ask: Should I be boiling my tap water?

The study, published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters

Researchers found that when the water is heated, calcium carbonate, a common compound found in tap water, becomes solid. This "traps" many of the microplastics, and the water can effectively be put through a simple coffee filter, leaving many of the microplastics behind.

As noted by The Washington Post, the results were most prominent in "hard" water, which has higher concentrations of minerals like calcium and magnesium, over "soft" water.

While the study showed promise, the authors noted that it "remains unclear" if boiling water will definitively remove microplastics, and more research needs to be done.

Because the results are not definitive, and it's more effective with some forms of water over others, experts say it's probably not necessary to boil your drinking water.

However, initial evidence is promising for helping keep water clean in the future!
